our angels and the projects they funded

Salt River Soup Kitchen

Sammy D Campus Orange Farm

Salt River Soup Kitchen

Group of joyful students standing behind garden beds with watering cans.

This project, funded by our Australian donor, JSHEALTH, has been running for 4 years and is managed by The Angel Network Western Cape. The kitchen was established at Salt River High School, in Woodstock, Western Cape in 2022.

This soup kitchen has become a hub for the children to be fed, feel safe and learn to grow their own sustenance in a vegetable garden attached to the kitchen.

The hub, where the kitchen is running is attached to a library. and to trauma counselling rooms, as so many of the children attending this school have suffered severe trauma.

The Students learn to plant, care for and harvest vegetables in the ECO Tribe Volunteer Club. Some of the vegetables are provided to the school kitchen. The rest are taken home by the ECO tribe students.

The House of Dorcas After School Programme

The Sammy D Campus exists to provide vulnerable children with a safe, structured,

and inspiring learning environment where they can develop strong educational

foundations and confidence for the future.

Through quality Early Childhood Development, structured after-school academic

support, and strong community partnerships, the campus aims to nurture literacy,

numeracy, and life skills that enable children to thrive in school and beyond.

Our vision is to build a sustainable, replicable campus model that transforms

young lives through education, mentorship, and community engagement.

From a Tree to a Thriving Learning Hub

What began as a few children learning to read under a tree, the House Of Dorcas Learning Center has now blossomed into a safe supportive space for 38 learners. Here they receive personalised academic assistance with their studies not normally available to them.

Every afternoon, Learners from Cato Ridge Informal settlement gather at the 2 containers located across the road from the settlement. These containers have been custom built as classrooms where the fortunate Learners spend their afternoons building on their educational journey and receiving new opportunities for growth. Their learning is guided by dedicated volunteer teachers, who give their time to these students after finishing their paid jobs at nearby schools.

Blikkiesdorp & Bonteheuwel Kitchens

The City of Faith Day Care is located in the Centre of Durban. It is run by a Mother and daughter team who take care of the pre-schoolers and work on preparing them for school. Three of the kids now live permanently at the day care with the teachers, as their parents were unable to care for them. The Angel Network provides funds for food for the children who receive breakfast, lunch and snacks at school. We also provide learning materials and have recently sponsored a laptop for the teacher so that she can use it to prepare lessons. The teachers are dedicated and nurturing and work on educating the children while also looking after them, preparing meals for them and dealing with the daily tasks involved in looking after pre-school children. Most of the parents are unable to contribute towards the fees for the daycare.

Blikkiesdorp & Bonteheuwel Kitchens

The House of Dorcas After School Programme

Blikkiesdorp & Bonteheuwel Kitchens

These two kitchens were established in destitute areas of the Western Cape in March 2023. They each provide one meal per day for up to 500 local children.

Vanessa Sauls Nelson, from the Charity Hope for the Future, runs these 2 kitchen and is committed to providing the meals and monitoring the children who attend the kitchens. As she works with children affected by domestic and sexual violence, she keeps a close eye on the regular visitors to the kitchen and steps in to advocate for them when necessary.

The most inspiring part of these projects is the selfless volunteers and community leaders who make sure that these projects are able to continue running under such difficult circumstances.
